today's tuesday

I only have a few things to say.

1. I think Tinder is morally repugnant.
2. There is such thing as a free lunch. Had one today. From Kneaders. What.
3. Invest in cool pants.

4. Get a Spotify account.
Then you can listen to cool songs like me.

5. Send an encouraging text to someone right now. No, like, RIGHT NOW.
8018646331
6. Who has a twitter account? Because it's seriously not very fun if you don't have friends on it.
6a. Get a twitter account so that twitter will be fun.
7. You can look forward to a better post next time. As soon as I remember my memory card.
So...who knows how long that will be.
But it's about my family and golf, so you know it's gonna be good.

#sneakpeak. Because yes, I just became one of those bloggers. no i don't know what those kind of bloggers are. i just said it because...i wanted to.

it was about to be bad

Today was about to be a bad day.
Yes, despite the sunshine I was about to have a bad day. In fact, I did have a bad day. From 11am to 1:06pm it was a bad day. Such a bad day that I almost quit my job. (but only in my head, you know how that goes)

But then my dearest friend called me up and asked if a visit could be arranged. I responded with a "please." (yes I said it in a way that was underlined, bolded, and italicized)  I put up the "will be back shortly" sign and went outside with this gem of a person. We were gone longer than should probably pass as "shortly," but I figure in the long scheme of things, 47 minutes isn't really that long, right?

I told my mom that I didn't quit my job. She responded with a "we all want to quit at one time or another. And then we take a walk and eat some chocolate. I'm proud of you."

Well said, oh wise mother.

I took a walk.
And ate chocolate pie. 3.14 for the world!

It was going to be a bad day.
And then it was ok.

Now I need to get home so I can get out of my jeans and into my shorts. (watch out provo, better put your sunglasses on because these limbs are so white I can't even think of an analogy that would do it justice. Any suggestions? Points for the person with the most amusing analogy. I'll take you out for ice cream or something. wow. am i seriously trying to buy friendship? yes.)

In other news I'm wearing my sandals, admiring the speck of toenail polish leftover from last September, planning for birthday gifts, celebrating a letter FINALLY, getting super sick of sticky notes, and persuading my political philosophy professor that he needs to read Harry Potter. you're welcome world.

peace and pie day.

a few of my faves

This list portrays quite accurately what has been on my mind for the last weekish. don't worry rebecca. no more bangs. although...they have, quite literally, been on my mind.

*Avalanche Lake
Glacier National Park

*Sarah by Orson Scott Card

and Rachel and Leah

*this quote from Sarah
"Love is finding that the things you like best about yourself are not in you at all, but in the person that completes you." -Orson Scott Card
coolio.

*coconut chocolate wonder cookie from Sweet Tooth Fairy

i think i have like, one friend who might understand how much i'm absolutely loving on this movie.

**the Warm Bodies playlist

**specifically this song

sometimes i'm social

Last night me and my bangs went to a surprise birthday party for a set of twins that have changed my life. One, the dearest, kindest, most hilarious, strongest, smartest, most beautiful, clever, caring, adventurous girl in my life whoa. that's a lot of adjectives. but they're true. i mean...she survived thursday night 80s dancing. give that girl a birthday cake. oh wait...and the other my destined and dashing partner in that most glorious of relationships known as marriage. The party was a hit, with beautiful people, smiles, chocolate cake, pictures, pink lemonade, and leftover Christmas decorations.

Erm. Excuse me. I mean "winter" decorations.

As my previous post can attest, I'm obviously feeling hyper aware of my hair. I tried my best to prep it beforehand so that it would have that "I don't care what my hair does but doesn't it look great?" look that all the Grey's Anatomy girls have going on. That, or at least keep it off my face without it being so slicked back that I would be mistaken as Draco Malfoy. In the end neither attempt would have worked due to the temperature in the apartment. Get 20+ college students in a little apartment, most wearing sweaters or jackets, all trying to impress their crush of the night while a disco ball flashes from the kitchen, and you have the perfect environment for deflated hair. That, and deodorant testing. good news. i think we all passed.

In short, I felt obligated to apologize for my deflated bangs every 10 minutes. I imagine it's what having an annoying-drunk friend come with you somewhere is like. Constantly having to say things like, "I'm so sorry. I don't know why they're doing that," or "You know, they usually behave better," or "Please don't look at them." But instead of trying to hide behind my phone or blend into the Christmas tree ..."winter" tree... as I expected to do, I surprised myself and reacted totally contrary to prior plans. no seriously. i already had nicholas hoult's twitter feed loaded on my phone...just in case, you know?

Anyway, I ended up being more social than is probably socially acceptable. First I was chatting about a broken pinky, then the prayer position, then how French and Spanish were kind of the same, then about how I'm not going to law school, then about "if my life was a movie," then about Brazilian men and accounting men, whether mountains make you feel claustrophobic or not, then about how to get phone numbers, then about waterboards, the trees in Minnesota, how people in Minnesota say "Minnesota",  whether tacos or burgers are better, if there are places to ski in Ukraine, and Elder Oaks. I mean, we are at BYU. I was bouncing around that room like no ones business and loving on the cookies made by the cutest elementary school teacher. These cookies...if you could take your favorite song, the most attractive man you can think of, a snuggie, a baby panda, and that short movie Paperman and put them in a cookie? It would taste like these cookies.yeah

what's the point of this post?

In conclusion, I guess I hope people remember me as the crazy girl who said "Minnesota" 17 times in a row rather than the one who had a mop on her forehead.

When I came home I celebrated my antics by putting stretchy pants on and getting my hair as far away from my face as possible.

and...is literally a knot.

band together

i was going to title this blog "bang together." you know, like a play on words because my bangs are...um..driving me crazy. but then it just sounded weird so i didn't.
and then i found 20 bucks.

I think I might start a "Bangs Anonymous" group that could meet together and provide a solid base of emotional support for all those going through such a tremendous ordeal. We'd be known as the B.A. group, which isn't entirely bad. We'd make cute, practical headbands, tell each other that we all look great and not like our seventh grade selves and provide an endless amount of bobby pins. Our chant would be "Bangs were fun, but now they're done. Get off my head. Bang bang! They're dead."

or something equally catchy. i'm open for suggestions.

call me vain

When people tell me that they have committed to simplifying their lives I think, "That would be a nice thing to do," because I'm convinced they mean they are eliminating personal drama by changing either their outlook on life or specific personality traits. They must be committing to eating only things that can be nuked in the microwave for a minute and a half before consuming (that's my kind of simple) or constructing a daily schedule that flows and is...simple.

I haven't really thought that my life needs any sort of simplifying. I kind of just do what I want. Fortunately the things I want to do don't often result in drama or complications. I mean, if I wanted to eat all my roommates' food, then we might have a problem. on further thought, that is a terrible example because really i do want to eat all my roommates food, but have learned that such actions are frowned upon. so...let's try that again. I mean, if I wanted to crash my car into all the other cars and treat University Avenue like the newest bumper car attraction, then the result would be drama and complication. other results would probably include blood, shattered glass, family rejection, 0 friends, and jail.
as i said, complication.

So the fact that I want to go hiking/skiing, read about familial theology, wear sandals, take a thousand pictures, watch Lion King, and eat chicken pot pies isn't usually a problem. unless you're a chicken. in which case, i apologize. talk to marie calendar.

But this past weekend I noticed that I was doing a few things that I didn't want to do anymore. These things weren't resulting in any tremendous amount of drama, but they were making me feel a little bit...socialized. So, in the spirit of simplification, I will be attempting to do the following. i use the word "attempting" because man, social expectations are strong and basically... i am weaksauce.

no really, anything over mild flavored sauce makes me cry.

*grow my bangs out: With this I send out a preemptive apology to the universe for the next 3 and a half months of my life. We're all aware of this awkward stage. I am very aware, having gone through the process once already. But...I just don't want to have to straighten my hair everyday anymore. can i get a hear hear! from...anyone?

*limit makeup usage: A friend saw me without makeup on the other day and basically thought I looked like a different person. i have invisible eyelashes, what can i do? I then realized that I don't want my actual face to be unknown to people. I also realized that 15-20 minutes were being washed down the drain everyday. Literally. All of a sudden the thought of putting makeup on became completely exhausting. don't think i'm going all crazy natural here. i'll still use it.
basically what i'm saying is eyeliner is for special occasions. so if i'm wearing it in your presence, congrats. i think you're special.

*keep my nails trimmed: I'm sick of trying to keep them perfectly rounded and clean. More often than not they chip and I become personally offended.

*"wear it if i want": Within reason, I will do my best to wear the things I want. If those shoes are comfortable and that sweater is too, who cares if one is brown and the other gray? Seriously, it's not the end of the world.

*not listen to music at every possible moment: Since I got my new, sweet phone I realized I was spending more and more time with earbuds in or speakers on. Walking to campus was suddenly a chore that only my Brandon Flowers station on Pandora could make better. Projects at work needed background music. I needed to be serenaded to sleep. For now I'm just going to try listening to my surroundings. i mean, the hills are alive right?

i apparently think that physical appearance is one of the most complicated aspects of my life. #callmevain
actually, i know that physical appearance is the most complicated aspect of my life.
i mean, putting pants on every morning almost drives me to tears.
tell me that's not true of us all though.

And just because I can, here are some more pictures.

you know it's been a good weekend if

*you just pick up and leave for the weekend and know you have a nice, always welcoming, fun place to stay only 40 minutes away
status: poet.

*you were perfectly content to go to a movie and dinner with your parents
#lincoln
#socool
#datesareoverrated?
#ikeeptellingmyselfthat

*you were able to convince your little sister to spend the day skiing with you

*while skiing you accidentally hurt your sister twice by skiing into her but she forgave you

*you spent most of lunch laughing at the pathetic meal you packed that morning

*the nice people at the table next to you heard you complaining that you were still hungry, so they gave you their chips
i felt like oliver

*two guys asked to sit down with you, realized you are eating carrots and brownies, looked at their overflowing beer cups, stood up and left.
you laughed harder than before.
#represent
i don't know why or how that applies but it's cool

*you're little sister has no inhibitions and decided to do a super cool trick in front of everybody.
so naturally you recorded it.

[this is where i would show you the video but blasted blogger is struggling right now and won't let me.]
#moreupsetthanishouldbe

*you decided that was so super cool that you want to record something else.
like you skiing down the mountain.
so you go all go pro.
but you only have your phone.
so you rig up your own "no go pro" by sticking your phone down your sisters goggles.
it was her idea
you press record, and then you ski.
she looks like a fool.
but it's super hilarious.
at least to us.

[see above.]
blastedblogger.

um...don't mind my crazy hair (awkward trying-to-grow-the-bangs-out-AGAIN-stage)

*you played a rhyming game while sitting on the life. key phrase: blue skies and...
results:
...cute guys
...chicken pot pies
...flabby thighs
...bleary eyes
...mcdonald's fries
(any additions?)

*you got to eat pizza factory breadsticks
i'm going to be investing in those more often,
because,
dang.
they're good.
wanna join?

*you got to feel like a little kid again, staying up late reading a book and just loving it
it was seriously completely refreshing to read an actual book with actual paper.
remember when that's what we did?
please.
go try it.

*you got to attend the blessing of your newest cousin and be with family and eat parfaits and quiche and cookies and play concentration with your 7 year old cousin who also treated you like a set of monkey bars and you realized that you want to spend a lot more time with her.
concentration...64...i'll go first...i'll go second...category is...
remember?
what does the 64 mean?

*you eat stuffed chicken breast for dinner and don't know what to do it's so good

*you spend all sunday night laughing with your mom and sister for really no apparent reason

*your face is peeling from the sunshine absorbed during the ski day

*you wake up to go back to provo and re-decide that you absolutely love the rockies
