british boys

Yesterday night was one of those nights where I really didn't want to be around people. But didn't realize that until I was already among the throngs waiting for their half-off shake at Sonic. ps. always get the coconut cream pie shake. never get any sort of cheesecake shake. I'm just hoping that this aversion to the human race was a short-lived thing because I'm going to be around more than enough people for the next day and a half. And they are probably going to be more eccentric than the kind you find at a Sonic in Provo at 9:30pm.

And because the crush of the week from yesterday is still in full swing, I give you a few more baby-faced, angel-voiced boys as the Tuesday Tunes. Plus they're British so that's just a double bonus.

You know who else is British? Nicholas Hoult. My best friend sent me this yesterday with the caption "I'm crushed." Truer words were never typed.

Everybody is so focused on the fact that J-Law is in love again. I'm just focused on the fact that my dreams have basically been ruined. I should probably go somewhere I can forget my problems and just live in the moment, huh? Vegas? Ok. Done.

oh hey tuesday

There's a lot I could potentially complain about today, and to be honest my fingers and brain are itching to just unload. But, from experience, I know that that really only creates more problems and makes me feel even worse. My attitude about it today is that you solve the problems that you can and then when it all becomes like a Sudoku puzzle (which I'm not very good at) you set it all down and think, "Hey, at least I'm not stuck in a cage of lions with raw Zebra meat strapped to my body, while having to do Sudoku."

I mean, that would just be really bad.

So today I'll give you a song that I'm kind of liking recently, an old picture of me being Taylor Swift and singing about my sadness and age 20 points if that made any sense to you, and call it quits. I was going to do this whole list of good things about today but that just seems like overkill right now.

Oh Tuesdays, why can't we just get along already? At least there's music.

must be tuesday

I woke up late today because last night I was super smart and stayed up super late talking with my best friend on the phone. After that conversation I decided it would be a good time to put coconut oil in my hair because apparently that's supposed to help with moisture and strength and blah blah blah. Basically it made me look like a grease-pot and my hair feels just the same as it always has. This greased up hair made it so that I HAD to shower, because seriously guys. Draco and Snape would be jealous of the greasiness that was my hair this morning.

So I was double late to work, forgot my phone, sunglasses, and book. Oh, and my makeup. But whatever. I'm over that stuff. When I finally arrived at work I was informed that I was about to be automatically terminated (aka fired) because I'm not signed up for classes in the fall. Oh BYU. I love the hoops you make all your students and employees jump through. You and me, BYU, we should enter the circus together. I'll be the monkey that you yell things like, "Dance circus monkey, DANCE." to. And you better believe I'll dance.

So...let's hope I can work it so that I'm NOT immediately, automatically, abruptly and forcefully terminated from life as a TEDSEC. Although the thought crossed my mind that maybe, must maybe, being terminated wouldn't be such a bad thing. That thought immediately left my mind as I considered my other options for employment. I mean, I've paid my dues to Papa Smurfs and Coldstone. I actually really like coming home from work NOT smelling like pizza sauce and old caramel.

Basically, it's Tuesday. And the fact that I was just on vacation all last week makes being here that much more difficult. I mean....really? This compared to that?

Whateves though. Whateves. oh hey. it's the fourth couple of the family. ^^^^ #sisterpride #sistershame? #sisters

At least I got a dollar off my Turkey Harvest Croissant sandwich at the MOA Cafe. At least.

And now I can't find the song I really wanted to share today. Cool beans. COOL BEANS.

You know, maybe I need to calm down. This song helps me clam down. So actually really cool beans. I'll post that.

grandpa? what big teeth you have...

Yesterday I was sitting at work when my phone began to ring. I had an incoming call from an unknown number and because I'm always more curious than worried about that type of stuff, I answered. The following conversation happened.

"Hello?"

"...hi. Is this K...."
(it was muffled so I couldn't hear, but it sounded like Caroline)

"Oh, no, this is her sister, Rachel."

"Oh, Rachel! How's it going? I must have dialed your home number on accident."

"Um, no, this is my cell phone. Ha..."
(I'm uneasy at this point because this person obviously knows me and I have no idea who it is)
oh, and you're welcome for the commentary. continuing on...

(A conversation in which I attempt to explain what is happening even though I have no idea what is happening follows. What stranger knows about me and my sister?! I decided to find out.)

"Um, I'm really sorry but who is this?"

"Oh, Rachel, it's grandpa!"

"...Oh my gosh! Grandpa! I'm so sorry, my speaker must be messed up because your voice sounds so different. Are you feeling ok? Do you have a cold or anything?"

"No, I'm ok. That's interesting though. Well, I'm trying to get ahold of your dad. But obviously have the wrong number. Where can I reach him?"

(I proceed to give him my dad's cell phone number, bantering as only grandfathers and granddaughters do)

"When did all of this change? This is a completely different number than I have for him."

"I don't know what you mean. This is what it's always been grandpa. Maybe you're looking at Uncle Mike's number or something?"

"Mike? Wait...how old are you?"

"Grandpa...hahaha I'm 21! You should know that. Come on grandpa."

(silence)

"Is this the Richardson residence?"

"Um....no...."
(finally starting to realize something's wrong)

"Oh my goodness. I'm not your grandpa."

"Oh."

The conversation awkwardly ended with me almost saying "love you," because in my head I was still talking to my grandpa. After barely avoiding that and wishing each other a happy life full of pinatas, fairy dust, and everything happy, I hung up and proceeded to collapse against the filing cabinet, laughing so hard I couldn't stay upright.

THE END.

And since it's Tuesday, the worst day of the week in my opinion, let's listen to some music.

4 Pics 1 Week

Ok. So it's not Friday. And I kind of thought I would do this type of post each Friday. But I just didn't. And I'm doing it now. So deal. please?

-The BYU Bookstore literally sells everything. And sometimes you just have to wonder why. Why are you trying to get college students to buy ridiculous things they don't need? Like a backpack that looks like a plaid shirt? Ok. So that one makes sense. But it's about the only thing that does. i'm thinking their target audience must be all the EFY kids that are about to invade campus. they need that teeny tiny pen that has a cat head as a grip in order to remember their time spent here. obviously.

ps. look at that cute bride to be! her dress is a lot prettier than that backpack. trust me. i've seen it. #maidofhonor

-Summer is here and the hiking has commenced. I have this thing where I wear sandals everywhere wait, is that like, the name of this blog or something? and this rule absolutely applies to hiking. I love having my feet dirty. I know, it's weird, but whatever. Plus when you get to hike with pretty people like my Tracie friend, it's just a double bonus.

-Wow. So I realized that all three of my favorite friends are in these pictures. i'm waiting for the day when they all meet and we all become the best of friends. it's going to happen. even if that day is my wedding day. no. i am not getting married anytime soon. Lindsay and I started a scooter gang because I mean, what else are super intimidating white girls supposed to do? PS. You want a natural high? Get a scooter. It is impossible to frown while riding such a blessed vehicle.

-Oh look, we went hiking! We never do that. jklolhags The four of us went to Logan to enjoy that place, be with the pony, and hike. This trail was a beauty. 10 miles in perfect temperature, on lovely single track, alongside a stream/river/brook...natural water feature, with the destination point being some super cool tree that's older than your 1500 year old grandma. apparently this thing was a sapling when the pyramids were being built. #treesforever.

Oh. And if you really have a 1500 year old grandma, I want to meet her so I can ask what life was like before cheese quesadillas.

My life is so good. I mean...what?

And since it's Tuesday....

You can't listen to this and not feel just...cool. So go ahead. Feel cool.

songs and southern utah

This last weekend I sat with two of my friends and discussed the details of an upcoming road trip/campout. Obviously the topic of playlists came up. My friends have sophisticated and hipster-like taste in their music. I sat there, saying "I've never heard of them before" after every band name.

I've always been this way. It used to stress me out like nothing else because knowing music and bands was a sign of how cool you were. Until I was about 17 the only music I knew was the soundtracks to Swan Princess, Brother Bear, Harry Potter, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron holla atcha Phil Collins and Bryan Adams.  what's up Hedwig's Theme!? Now, I still consider these arrangements works of art and will gladly jam to "Get Off My Back" at any time and any place, but I've also tried to branch out into the "real world of music" and have found like I don't mind it too much.

So here are a few of my favorites from the "real world."
